Derek Gripper, apart from being known for playing alongside multi-Academy Award winning film scorer and classical guitar maestro John Williams, pictured with him in June in London, is known for interpreting Toumani Diabaté’s West African kora (21-string lute-bridge-harp) music on his six-string acoustic guitar. John Williams, himself, said he thought it was impossible to do until he heard Derek do it. Derek has played in Turkey, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Malaysia, the UK and has a date at Carnegie Hall in November, but before then he will play in Muizenberg at the Blue Bird Garage, Albertyn Road, on Saturday August 27, at 8pm. Tickets are R150 from Quicket at www.quicket.co.za or R180 at the door.
