The Rhodes Cottage Tea Room opened its doors at the end of September and its Sunday high teas have been a “surprising hit”, according to Rhodes Cottage Museum curator Gabriel Clark-Brown.
The tea room is situated in the old manager’s cottage on the premises of the museum, and Mr Clark-Brown said the tea room “combines incredible African history with the beauty of the False Bay coastline and fynbos rich mountain behind”.
“I wanted to create a multi-cultural creative space where all people can enjoy great food, teas, and coffee in a tranquil environment,” he said.
The tea room consists of the outside elevated garden, and tables are available in the coach house, which housed the Cape cart that Cecil John Rhodes is said to have used to drive from his grand house, Groote Schuur, to Muizenberg.
The tea room is pet friendly, caters to halaal and vegetarian guests and uses only local suppliers.
It is situated at 246 Main Road, Muizenberg, and is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 3pm.
High tea on Saturdays is available from 1pm to 3pm and on Sundays from 11am to 1pm and 3pm to 5pm at R169, which includes bottomless tea.
The tea room will also have a weekly pensioner’s day where tea and scones will be served for R89 for two people.
The venue is also available to hire for special events. Bookings are essential, especially for high tea, said Mr Clark-Brown.
