A 71-year-old man from Marina Da Gama who allegedly stabbed his wife to death wants to apply for bail.
William Carter made a brief appearance in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday December 7 where he indicated that he plans to bring a bail application before the court and that he wanted to appoint a private lawyer.
The matter was postponed to Wednesday December 9.
Last month, Mr Carter abandoned his bail application during a brief appearance.
No reasons were provided by his Legal Aid representative, Shelley Eckles.
Mr Carter faces a charge of murder after his wife, Fran Carter, 65, was found dead on the kitchen floor of the couple’s home in Uitsig Road, Marina Da Gama, on Saturday October 17 with stab wounds to her head and back.
Mr Carter was found outside the house with a gunshot wound to his stomach and claimed they had been attacked by two men and he was shot during a scuffle.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Eric Ntabazalila said the matter was postponed on Wednesday to Monday December 21. The details of Mr Carter’s new lawyer are not known.
Mr Carter will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
