More than 150 friends and family gathered at the Southern Flo Naval Mess in Fish Hoek on Saturday June 11, for the launch of Child on Loan, a new book by local Christian author, Angela Billimore of Fish Hoek.
The book is a true-life account of the loss of Angela’s middle child, Nicholas, who died in a car accident in 1999, and follows her and her family’s deeply spiritual journey through grief and loss. The book was written to inspire parents who have lost their own children, says Angela, and to help those who have or are experiencing any other kind of tragedy or difficult time in their lives.
“So many people suffer loss but are not able to find the words to express what they are feeling,” she says.
“I hope this book will encourage readers and let them understand they are not alone.”
The book’s title, Child on Loan, was inspired by the poem A Child of Mine by Edgar Guest. The memoir includes intermittent journal entries and “Postcards to Heaven” (letters to Ni-cholas), alongside Biblical excerpts and other writings related to the topic, which Angela said helped her family significantly and had encouraged her to continue writing.
Child on Loan is available to order from Crystal Book Distribution in Johannesburg.
The book costs R159. Call 011 740 4958, or email angelabillimore@ gmail.com
