Two Eersterivier parents’ lives were shattered on Saturday night, December 2 after their nine-month-old-daughter was killed in an alleged hit-and-run accident in Baden Powell Drive near Sunrise Circle.
They were returning home after visiting family in Ocean View and Chloe Louw had been sitting on her mother’s lap in the back seat of the car when a bakkie crashed into the car on the side where Chloe and her mother were sitting.
The drivers of the bakkie ran off and disappeared into the bushes on the side of the road.
Chloe’s mother sustained minor injuries while Chloe died of head injuries at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital on Sunday morning around 4.50am.
Muizenberg police spokesman, Captain Steven Knapp said the accident happened around 9.30pm.
He said Chloe’s parents had been in a Toyota Corolla along with a 14-year-old when they were hit by an Isuzu bakkie.
Captain Knapp said Muizenberg police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and were searching for the driver of the Isuzu bakkie, who allegedly ran away after the incident.
No arrests have been made yet.
“A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened and a charge of culpable homicide has been added as a result of the death of the toddler,” he said.
