The F145, SAS Amatola, approaches and enters Simon’s Town Naval Harbour on Saturday morning April 22, at the conclusion of her three-month European Tour.
The approach, with the two tugboats spraying water, was timed at 9:11 a.m and entry into the harbour was timed at 9.17 a.m.
SAS Amatola departed Simon’s Town on January 17 under Operation Ketane, which saw the vessel undergo Basic Operational Sea Training (BOST) under guidance from the British Royal Navy off Plymouth, the centenary commemoration of the accidental sinking of the troopship SS Mendi during the First World War near Portsmouth on Tuesday February 21, and participation in Exercise Good Hope VII with the German Navy in the Baltic Sea from Monday February 27 to Sunday March 5.
This was followed by visits to Rostock (Germany), Rota (Spain), Tema (Ghana), Malabo (Equatorial Guinea), Luanda (Angola) and Walvis Bay (Namibia).
