A children’s spray park at the multi-purposecentrein Ocean View needs repairs after it was vandalised.
Ward councillor, Simon Liell-Cock, said the spray park was installed four years ago and was used mostly during school holidays as well as on Fridays during the warmer summer months.
The spray parks, which were established some years ago in several communities across Cape Town, do not replace swimming pools, but allow children to have fun with water at a fraction of the cost.
But the spray park has been closed during the water restrictions
Mr Liell-Cock said the spray park had been vandalised several times, and repairs and maintenance had been done in 2015 and 2016.
Mr Liell-Cock said vandalism cost the City hundreds of millions of rand annually.
“The scourge of vandalism is linked to the bigger scourge of drug abuse and gangsterism, which, in turn, is linked to the breakdown of the family unit,” he said.
