A murder suspect arrested by Ocean View police was found with drugs, ammunition and cash, said police spokesman Captain Stephen Knapp.
Acting on information provided by the community, Ocean View CID (Crime Intelligence Division) – arrested the 25-year-old on Monday October 31 and during the arrest, the police confiscated a 9mm Norinco pistol with 21 rounds of live ammunition as well as eight mandrax tablets, 16 half mandrax tablets, 18 packets of tik, 31 small packages of dagga, and cash.
He was charged with murder and further charges of possession of illegal firearm and ammunition and possession of narcotics.
Muizenberg police reported 38 arrests over the week ending Sunday November 6 for crimes varying from shoplifting to murder. These included two for domestic violence, one for carjacking, two for housebreaking and theft, two for murder, four for selling liquor without a licence, one for perjury and one for arson. These arrests were for all three sectors covered by Muizenberg police, which stretches from the Clovelly
side of Kalk Bay to Retreat Road.
A known gang member was arrested on Sunday November 6, said Captain Knapp.
Muizenberg SAPS’s crime prevention unit were patrolling in Overcome Heights when, around 1am, Constable Vuyani Kondile noticed a known JFK gang member in Mountain Road. On seeing the police, the suspect started running and Constable Kondile immediately gave chase. Constable Kondile managed to stop the man and, after a thorough search, found him to be in possession of 20 packets of tik.
The suspect, a 34-year-old resident of Seawinds, was arrested and detained at Muizenberg SAPS on charges of dealing in narcotics.
