In recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, Cupcakes of Hope, a non-profit organisation, will hold a fund-raiser at Longbeach Mall on Saturday in support of National Cupcake Day.
National Cupcake Day takes place at 75 malls across the country tomorrow, according to Cupcakes of Hope fund-raising coordinator Lori-Anne Hill.
It encourages the public to bake and donate cupcakes to Cupcakes of Hope which are then sold at participating malls with the help of volunteers.
The funds raised would help Cupcakes of Hope to continue providing support to hundreds of young cancer patients and their families across South Africa, said Ms Hill.
The organisation works with 21 paediatric oncology facilities and support includes covering medical bills and meeting other needs, from nappies to nutrition.
Since 2020, the number of patients supported by Cupcakes of Hope had quadrupled, and last month, more than 200 young cancer patients received financial assistance, with the youngest being just 10 months old, Ms Hill said.
“Support Cupcakes of Hope at Longbeach Mall tomorrow for a day filled with delicious treats and community spirit, all in aid of a cause that profoundly impacts the lives of countless children and families across South Africa.”
