Police have arrested five suspected drug dealers and seized thousands of rand worth of drugs during raids in Masiphumelele and near Capricorn.
Acting on a tip-off, Ocean View police officers arrested a 36-year-old man in Masiphumelele and confiscated 371 mandrax tablets, with an estimated street value of more than R18 000, on Sunday October 14, said Ocean View police spokesman Sergeant Leon Fortuin.
Later that day, they seized 27 parcels of dagga and 13 dagga bankies stashed in a shack in the Masiphumelele wetlands and arrested a 44-year-old woman for dealing in dagga.
“There are way too many drugs in the area, and the drugs contribute enormously to the amount of violence in the area,” said Sergeant Fortuin.
He urged the public to report criminal activity to Ocean View SAPS at 021 783 8300 or crime stop at 08600 10111.
Earlier, on Friday October 12, Muizenberg police acting on a tip-off raided a home in Mountain Road, Overcome Heights, near Capricorn, where they seized 129 packets of tik and an unlicensed 9mm pistol and 15 bullets, said Muizenberg police spokesman Captain Stephen Knapp.
A 29-year-old man and two women, aged 25 and 27, were detained at Muizenberg police station on charges of drug dealing and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
