A DA ward councillor will appear in court on Monday, October 31, on charges of common assault.
It all started when the councillor apparently blocked Fish Hoek resident Michael Kerr, 57, in his driveway, on Wednesday afternoon October 19, leading to an alleged scuffle between the two which left Mr Kerr with a broken arm. When approached for comment, the councillor said all he could confirm was the charge, and court date.
City council Speaker Dirk Smit was initially unaware of the incident but has said he will investigate the allegations.
Warrant Officer Peter Middleton of Fish Hoek police said the incident occurred on Wednesday October 19, but would not elaborate on the details of the case.
“The content of the case cannot be discussed as the matter is still to be brought to the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court and so is the testimony of each party,” Warrant Officer Middleton said.
“In this case the accused (whose name cannot be mentioned due to the person not having appeared in court yet) will be arrested for investigation purposes and within 48 hours either be charged or released,” he said.
DA chief whip in the City of Cape Town, Shaun August, was approached for comment on the incident, but at the time of going to print, had not yet responded to queries from the False Bay Echo.
