A dog at a Lekkerwater Road home attacked an intruder and put the man in hospital.
According to Ocean View police spokesman Sergeant Leon Fortuin the alleged burglar entered the home at about 8.45pm on Thursday May 30.
Police said the 49-year-old tenant had locked her doors and windows earlier that evening and activated her alarm.
She later heard something upstairs but assumed it was ducks on the roof.
She then heard something move in the upstairs bedroom
and locked herself and her son in her bedroom. She alerted her landlord who stays on the property and immediately came to her aid.
The intruder then jumped from the upstairs window and was attacked by the family dog.
Police have arrested a suspect and charged him with housebreaking. He is wanted in connection with three other cases: attempted murder, housebreaking and theft in Ocean View.
Sergeant Fortuin said the man was under police guard in hospital. He will appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrate’s Court as soon as he has been discharged.
