The Muizenberg Family violence, Child protection and Sexual offences (FCS) unit received 21 comfort bags for women who are victims of sexual abuse from a women’s outreach group of the NG Church in Fish Hoek.
Amanda van der Merwe, who handed over the bags on Monday, September 11, said the group wanted to support a local charity and decided on the FCS.
FCS commander, Captain Sedrick Beziek, said the police unit assists women and children who have been affected by sexual
abuse.
The unit offers victims free counselling, emotional support and, if need be, assists them to get medical treatment.
“We also encourage the women to speak out and report sexual abuse and rape,” he added.
The unit’s centre operates 24/7 and is based behind the Fish Hoek police station in Banks Road.
Ms Van der Merwe said each bag contained a scarf, a necklace, earrings, and various toiletries such as a toothbrush, soap and hand cream.
The bag is intended to provide the victims with some comfort when at the centre.
Captain Beziek said the unit was extremely grateful for the donation.
