Sunday April 22 was not a good reflection of Earth Day. The Zandvlei Nature Reserve Estuary was flooded with raw sewage from a collapsed pipe in Vrygrond, and this cormorant was noticed with rubbish stuck in its beak. The bird was first noticed in Marina da Gama on Wednesday, February 28, by a resident in the area. On Earth Day it was photographed again, looking quite unwell, with the same rubbish stuck in its beak. Pictures: KAREN KOTZE
