Ellen Luckmann celebrated her 100th birthday with a group of close friends at The Galley on Thursday February 17.
Her friends had a special birthday cake made for her and she enjoyed a piece with a cup of coffee.
Ms Luckmann was born on February 17, 1922, in Hamburg, Germany, but she has called Fish Hoek home for more than 50 years.
She married her long-time school friend, Werner, in September 1947. In 1950, her husband, a management consultant, got an offer from the Liberian government to reorganise its finance department and the couple moved to Liberia.
In 1955, their son was born in Monrovia, Liberia. He now lives in America.
Following a holiday in the Canary Islands a few years later, the couple loved it so much they decided to buy a house there and lived there for many years.
After her son went off to school in Germany, her husband went to work for the government in Afghanistan and after being apart for many years, the couple moved to Cape Town in 1966. Mr Luckmann died in 1994.
