On Tuesday June 7, Fish Hoek mountainside resident Charles Dagnall was walking on the beach when he spotted these two men with a strange instrument. “On asking, they told me they were from Stellenbosch University and were using a sophisticated GPS to measure the relationship between the slope of beaches and the fineness of the sand,” said Mr Dgnall. “Their research of many Cape beaches seemed to prove that the flatter the beach, the finer the sand and conversely the higher the slope of the beach, the coarser the sand. So, in addition to having a picturesque beach at Fish Hoek, we probably also have the ‘finest’.”
