Dramatic scene unfolded at the Waterfall Barracks at the Simon’s Town navy store room on Thursday May 28. The fire flared up at 12.41am inside a storeroom for redundant mattresses and desks. Lieutenant Commander Ruwayda Grootboom, the navy base’s
spokeswoman, said firemen were on the scene swiftly and the fire was
reported as extinguished at 1.09am by the base’s fire department.
The cause of the fire was attributed to a short circuit on the distribution
box situated inside the storeroom. No injuries were reported.
The fire caused the storeroom’s roof to collapse.
