Firefighters on Tuesday contained a fire in the Noordhoek wetlands
area.
According to City Fire and Rescue Services spokesman Jermaine Carelse, it started on Sunday, at about 2.40pm and spread quickly to surrounding areas. Firefighters, supported by two water-
bombing helicopters, extinguished the blaze just before 10pm, but it flared up again on Monday at 6am, and it took the efforts of more than 150 firefighters – again backed up by the helicopters – to contain it by 7am on Tuesday.
Mr Carelse said the fire had covered an extensive area with the wind and dry conditions spurring it on.
No properties were damaged but one firefighter was injured and taken to hospital.
