Five men arrested after hijacking

Police arrested five men after a 51-year-old man was hijacked on Baden Powell Drive in Muizenberg last week.

The Goodwood man was robbed at gunpoint, at 1am on Thursday February 28, of his silver VW Polo, phone, wallet and shoes.

The suspects fled towards Muizenberg.

According to police spokesman, Captain Stephen Knapp, Diep River SAPS officers spotted a suspicious vehicle in Mocke Road 20 minutes later and there was a high-speed chase.

The car was brought to a stop in Main Road, Diep River. Police arrested two suspects, aged 32 and 35.

Police had then been able to link the car to the hijacking.

“Further investigation led the SAPS members to arrest another three suspects aged 24, 34 and 36 respectively. The hijacked vehicle was then also recovered in Schaapkraal,” said Captain Knapp.
