The floating body of a man was found in Kalk Bay Harbour on Sunday evening, September 3.
NSRI Simon’s Town station commander, Darren Zimmerman, said the Simon’s Town duty crew was deployed around 8.15pm after eyewitnesses reported a body floating face down in the harbour.
On arrival at the scene, two NSRI rescue swimmers were deployed into the water and the body of a 45-year-old was retrieved.
Mr Zimmerman said police have opened an inquest docket and the body of the man was taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.
Police spokesman, Captain Stephen Knapp, confirmed that the Muizenberg SAPS attended to a drowning at Kalk Bay Harbour on Sunday.
He said the man was a resident of Khayelitsha and the inquest into his death is being investigated by Detective Sergeant Milicent Teichardt.
