Muizenberg police have been helping to get food parcels to their intended recipients in the informal settlement of Village Heights. The residents of this community are at least 3km from the closest formal shopping centre with no public transport other than taxi. Many in the community have lost their jobs during lockdown and have found it hard to feed their families. Police have been escorting volunteers from the Zandvlei Trust into the area – which has been plagued by gang activity and violent crime – so that they can drop off donations of bread and vegetables. Muizenberg police spokesman Captain Stephen Knapp said the feeding scheme was vitally important and the police would support it where they could.Â
