Two men and two women appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court last week after they were arrested in a
R5 million drug bust.
The police’s Anti-Gang Unit arrested the four at a Sheraton Park home, on Tuesday
November 12. Muizenberg police spokesman Captain Stephen Knapp said officers acting on a tip-off arrested a 19-year-old man at the Opal Lane address for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as dealing in drugs.
Captain Knapp said 37 000 mandrax tablets, 2 600 crushed mandrax tablets, two packets containing smaller packets of crystal meth, one Glock 27
firearm, one Tanfoglio 9mm calibre firearm, nine magazines, 500g of heroin and 326 rounds of 9mm ammunition were found in the house.
A further search of the back of the property revealed more drugs, he said.
A backpack found in a room, where two women were found dealing in tik, contained 20 packets of crystal meth, weighing 1.95kg, and they were both arrested, he said.
The garage was also searched, he said, and a 25-year-old man was arrested for possession of about 36 000 mandrax tablets.
“The estimated street value for the drugs is worth
R5.145 million,”Captain Knapp said.
The four appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday November 14.
Captain Knapp said the docket had been handed over to the Anti-Gang Unit for further investigation.
