Four suspects were apprehended yesterday for allegedly robbing people at Surfers’ Corner in Muizenberg.
Law enforcement officers were on foot patrol, when they were approached by a member of the public, saying that about 30 people were allegedly busy robbing people behind the Muizenberg civic centre.
When the officers went to investigate, the group of alleged robbers split and ran in different directions.
The officers chased them and managed to apprehend four.
However, none of the eyewitnesses was prepared to give statements about what had transpired.
It was later revealed that an off duty police officer tried to help when he saw the group trying to rob people.
They then turned on him and he fired a warning shot into the ground. The law enforcement officers tried to locate the shooter, but he was nowhere to be found.
In the absence of any witness statements the officers were unable to make arrests.
Each suspect was then issued with a fine for riotous behavior and ejected from the beach area.Â
