A number of the City of Cape Town’s vehicle testing centres will offer free vehicle checks from Monday April 3 to Friday April 7, from 8am to 2pm, daily, in preparation for the Easter holidays.
In a statement issued last week, Mayco member for safety and security, and social services, JP Smith, encouraged drivers to use the free check, which will include tyres, brakes and wipers.
“These free vehicle checks are not a full roadworthy test. They are instead designed to flag anything that requires attention before motorists embark on road trips, but also to provide peace of mind. I’d encourage members of the public to have the check done on their vehicles, whether they’re travelling long distance or not,” said Mr Smith.
● The centres where the safety checks will be done include, Joe Gqaba, Philippi East; Hillstar, Ottery; Gallows Hill, Green Point; Bellville; Brackenfell; Durbanville; Goodwood and Kuils River.
The City will launch Operation Exodus tomorrow, Friday April 7, focused on driver and vehicle fitness
in the long-distance transport sector.
“We will work with other enforcement partners over the upcoming holiday period to help keep our roads safe for all, and I encourage public transport operators and also the public to work with us in making this a reality,” said Mr Smith.
