In celebration of Freedom Day on Friday 27 April, the SA Naval Museum fired a nine-inch rifled muzzle loader cannon at the Battery on the slopes of Simon’s Town. The cannon was fired at noon exactly to the delight of far south residents who had gathered around the cannon for the firing. Afterwards, visitors were invited to a talk by Warrant Officer Harry Croome on the cannon and how it works.
