A Noordhoek teen will jet off to America next month to perform for record label bosses in Los Angeles.
Gabriela Webb, 16, is a Cape Town School of Rock student and has been chosen as part of the international School of Rock’s Center Stage talent search.
She will perform in front of Atlantic Records executives in November.
Gabriela, who attends Cedar House High School, submitted a five-minute audition video of her original song, which scored her a spot as one of the 20 selected teenagers flown to Los Angeles to record songs at the Artist Partnership Group studios.
Born in Johannesburg to a Brazilian mother, who loves rock music and a South African drummer father, Gabriella has lived abroad in many different places and has been playing music for as long as she can remember.
“School of Rock prides itself on taking students like Gabi out of the lesson room and putting them on to the stage,” said Leigh Spaun, School of Rock Claremont marketing director and co-owner.
“We are proud to have one of our students chosen to be part of this talent search and we are excited to offer these types of opportunities to our students so as to provide them with authentic experiences that can potentially pave the way to an awesome music career.”
Gabriela has been as School of Rock since June 2019. Her fellow students, Rosie Bruce and Shandu Sarantos, previously made it into the brand’s annual AllStars Tour, which saw them tour America in July. Â
