A traffic officer was injured after being hit by a stray bullet during an armed robbery in Kalk Bay this morning.
The officer was standing down in the parking lot at Kalk Bay Harbour, when he reported being shot and asked for help.
A few moments later, he witnessed four men fleeing from a nearby restaurant, and raised the alarm about the robbery, providing a description of the getaway vehicle, which was spotted by law enforcement officers in Muizenberg.
The officers gave chase along Baden Powell Drive, and managed to catch suspects behind Rocklands Sports Field in Mitchells Plain.Â
Officers also recovered a firearm and the getaway vehicle.
Mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said: “The quick thinking of the City’s enforcement staff involved in this incident was key in tracking down the suspects who are now behind bars, and likely to face a range of charges.”
Mr Smith also commend the officers for their actions, and wished the officer, who was wounded a speedy recovery. Â
