It’s almost time for the Kommetjie Festival, a community event that brings locals and visitors together for fun and charity.
This yearly festival, organised by Kommetjie residents, will be held on Saturday November 18, starting at 7.30am and continuing late into the evening.
Its main objective is to raise funds for KomWatch, the local neighbourhood watch.
“The donated funds will primarily go towards establishing a CCTV camera network in Kommetjie along with other security initiatives,” said KomWatch chairman Kane Mitchell.
Taryn McLullich, a festival organiser, said the festival also supported other “worthy causes”, such as Hopetown in Ocean View, and it intended to contribute to a skate park in Kommetjie and a benevolent fund for the needy in the community.
The festival will include a dress-up surf event, a skate contest, volleyball matches, a sandcastle building competition, an Anything that Floats competition and a market with more than 40 stalls.
The line-up of live music and entertainment at Fisherman’s Garden Restaurant from 2pm until 10pm includes Mel Malisch, Jonathon Steven Simons, Mike McCullough and DJ Rene.
If you are interested in getting involved, donating a prize for the raffle, or performing, WhatsApp Taryn McLullich at 078 347 9977. Tickets for the festival are available for R80 on Quicket or R100 at the door.
