Law must step up

Cheryl Cost, Marina da Gama

Thank you for your article on beach huts (“City plan for beach huts”, Echo, August 3). My question is how so much criminal activity takes place under the very noses of law enforcement who have their offices within metres of these huts.

Also, if these huts were maybe rented out -especially in season – or used by surf schools and kept locked, that would help keep the criminal element at bay.

I think it would be really sad to lose these icons. And the criminals will simply operate from the dunes or bushes.

I think law enforcement should step up and be more visible and not pick on dog walkers, but protect the public from muggers; not only here but on St James walkway and Sunrise Beach.
