Annually students from UCT’s Groote Schuur Residence and Mansions, with a few from other residences, take part in a practical leadership course run by TS Woltemade Sea Cadets at Lakeside. The students’ first task was to plan their journey to ensure they arrived on time at Lakeside station to meet the sea cadet instructors. The students were met by midshipman Ruben Pillay and a senior sea cadet. The squad then took part in activities testing their abilities to work as a team to solve physical challenges. After lunch they boarded the Saldanha dinghies for some “pulling” instruction and later ended the the adventure with the boats racing one another. Pictured, from left, are Mapulane Makhaba, Sohil Tulsi, Ruben Pillay, Khanyiso Manganye and Sinawo Ndlombose out on the vlei during a pulling evolution.
