The City of Cape Town’s vehicle registration and licensing offices were reopened in Fish Hoek and Strandfontein last week.
The City urges the public to only visit the offices in person for urgent matters or if they are unable to make use of online services.
This will help to reduce queues as offices are running on a skeleton staff complement to adhere to the Covid-19 regulations.
To avoid queues and to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the public is urged to rather visit at a later stage if possible or register for e-services and do vehicle renewals or account payments online.
Customers needing to go into an office, should do so as early as possible.
There is a 90-day grace period for vehicle licence renewals, which applies to customers who had to renew their licences from March 23 to May 31. They have until Saturday August 29.
The 90-day grace period applies for expired driving licence cards, learner’s licences, professional driving permits, roadworthy certificates, temporary driving licences and vehicle registration and licence renewal
discs.
Also, the validity period for the renewal of a motor trade number licence is extended for a further six months as of June 1.
Motorists who applied for a vehicle licence renewal by e-services before March 26 (prior to the national lockdown) do not need to reapply.
All vehicle owners who have applied online for the renewal of vehicle licences from March 26 (during the national lockdown) will need to reapply online as all these applications have either expired or could not be processed due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
The Fish Hoek office’s operating hours are Monday to Friday from 8am until 3.30pm and Saturday from 8am until 11.30am.
