The inaugural Long Table event was held in Palmer Road, Muizenberg, on Saturday night, October 6. Hosted by June Homan of Joon and Darryl and Emma Burger of The Field Kitchen, the event – part of the Muizenberg Festival – was created to get people who are residents, neighbours and strangers to meet, have a feast, talk – and leave with a sense of belonging. Maybe even leave with new friends. It was sold out and had long waiting list of hopefuls who wanted to be there. “We put the table outside and established 120 places; and it wasn’t nearly enough for the demand,” said Ms Homan. “But we will do this again, and we are already thinking about how to effectively make it accessible to more.” She said she could not have been happier with the turnout and the food provided by Mr Burger.
