Zimkhitha Mlanzeli, an editor at the FunDza Literacy Trust visited Masiphumelele library during Library Week, from Saturday March 18 to Sunday March 26, where she told children how it important it was to read, write and tell their own stories.
Encouraging the children to join the library, she told them about her journey; how she had started as a young writer and ended up as an editor at FunDza, which is dedicated to improving literacy among teens and young adults. A local author, Xolisa Tshongolo, also visited the library to share his experience of the art of writing books and Sindiwe Magona held a storytelling session with the pre-primary school children. Library bags and bookmarks were handed out to the public, and the “fine free” week was appreciated by everyone.
