Western Cape Health MEC Dr Nomafrench Mbombo visited the Ocean View clinic today after receiving complaints from residents.
Dr Mbombo, who was joined by Mayco member for social services, safety and security JP Smith, engaged with the residents and staff.
Some of the discussions included safety at the clinic, waiting times, the clinic appointment system, the expansion of the diabetic programme and the formation of the Ocean View Health Committee.
Currently, the average waiting time at the clinic is two hours, however it is hoped that with the migration to a modernised system, the waiting time will decrease.
Meanwhile, Mr Smith also spoke about the City of Cape Town’s ideal clinic status drive, the possibility of including pharmacy learnerships, as well as the difficulty in recruiting qualified staff, specifically from Ocean View.
