John Shaw, Fish Hoek
For the record, I would like to report the important successful conclusion of the meeting which was
not recorded in the article “Greenbelt wall to comply with regulation,” (Echo January 31).
Some of the residents had supported the security wall and gate while the rest were violently opposed. After much debate, one of the representatives of the Fish Hoek Valley Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association pointed out that, in their policy of “eyes on the street”, they were opposed to opaque walls, but, where security was necessary, see-through fencing and gates would better achieve this and still retain the visual result of the open greenbelts.
As a result, the meeting ended peacefully with all in agreement.
