Coralie Thompson will take over as principal of Sun Valley Primary School from the beginning of next year.
Ms Thompson, currently deputy principal at Wynberg Girls’ Junior School, previously taught at Sun Valley Primary School.
Debbie-Jayne Viljoen has been the acting principal at Sun Valley Primary since Gavin Keller stepped down at the end of September 2019.
Jacques Loftus, chairman of the school’s governing body, wished Ms Thompson well in her new role.
“We are excited to have a person of her calibre and experience join the school’s special family,” he said.
Ms Thompson is originally from the Eastern Cape, and has also held senior positions at Wynberg Boys’ Junior School and Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School.
Ms Viljoen said: “We are excited to see where she will take our school, while still holding true to Sun Valley’s core values.”
Asked what her plans were for the school, Ms Thomson said: “I shall assess the situation, daily operations and teaching, and make informed decisions for the best interests of the children and the school.”
She added: “It’s also important to note learning styles have changed. I let the children choose how they want to learn in the classroom – at a desk, maybe on a beanbag, or on a chair at the counter.”
