Despite stiff competition from 34 clubs across the country at the DHL Lifesaving National Club Championships held in Gqeberha last month, Fish Hoek’s nippers walked away as the overall winners in the ocean events, amassing a more than 100-point victory, for the first time in 11 years.
The Fish Hoek Surf Lifesaving Club’s seniors also won their events, and the combined points tally of the juniors and seniors was enough to secure them second place overall said club chairman Grant Edwards.
He said the prestigious event on the South African surf lifesaving calendar, attracted more than 1500 athletes, including competitors as young as 8, who competed in a range of events including ocean, beach and pool events.
The club’s nipper officer, Nikki Mocke, said: “We are incredibly proud of our entire team and the results they achieved.“
