Muizenberg police station is closed for routine decontamination and will reopen on Sunday May 10 at noon.
MuizenbergĀ police station commander, Colonel Vassie Naidoo, said it was suspected that someone who had been arrested by law enforcement for contravening the Disaster Management regulations, may be Covid-19 positive.
He denied allegations reported by The Citizen that the station had been closed due to a staff member testing positive. The article, he said, was also shared widely on local community social media groups.
“As a precautionary measure the officers who may have come into contact with the suspect have been tested and are self isolating,” he said.
Operations will be conducted as normal from a mobile office in front of the police station.
Police vehicles and police cells were sanitised on a daily basis and staff and the public were screened before they were allowed to enter the station, he said.
