One person died in a fire that destroyed 256 structures in Hou Moed Street in Masiphumelele on Monday July 29.
A total of 1 280 people have been affected by the fire. The victims are being housed at the Masiphumelele community hall and the Methodist Church in Myeza Road.
The City of Cape Town’s disaster risk management centre has informed the South African Social Security Agency to provide humanitarian relief.
Disaster risk management spokesperson, Charlotte Powell, said: “Informal settlement management will provide starter kits for residents once the solid waste department has removed all the fire debris.”
The community is in need of donations of non-perishable food, blankets, clothing and baby items.
Donations can be dropped off at the Living Hope Centre in Kommetjie Road, Fish Hoek.
