The Fish Hoek Emergency Call Centre (ECC) received an overwhelming response from the community after numerous requests in the Echo for new volunteers as it was on the verge of closure. Since then, 24 new volunteers have joined the NPO, which is available to the community 24 hours a day throughout the year. They operate from the Fish Hoek police station during the day. Night duty is done on a call forward basis to the volunteer’s home. The ECC thanked everyone who came forward or assisted with its appeal for volunteers. “Without your dedication and support we wouldn’t be able to provide a service to the deep south as we have for the last 19 years. We are still looking for volunteers for shifts on the weekends and some “night owls” for night duty,” said ECC chairperson, Bianca Bresler.
