The Centre for Early Childhood Development wrapped up its last parenting workshop for the year earlier this month at the Ocean View library.
The Claremont-based centre, which opened in 1994, provides training, support, and advice to improve the education of children from disadvantaged communities.
Lisa Jurgens, the centre’s family outreach worker, earlier told the Echo that the centre had launched a family outreach programme pilot project in Ocean View and Red Hill, earlier this year
She said centre staff had visited many homes to assess the needs of children who did not attend a preschool.
In the final workshop of the year, she said, they had focused on children’s physical development and milestones and emphasised the importance of supporting their growth and recognising age-appropriate milestones.
She said parents were also advised to visit their nearest clinic if they had concerns about their children’s development.
“It has been an absolute joy working with the amazing moms, dads, and children in Ocean View this year,” she said.
Ms Jurgens said the centre wished to thank the library for being an “incredible community resource” and the Vigis Home of Hope, a local non-profit, for providing refreshments at all its workshops.
