Muizenberg SAPS arrested 66 people for crimes varying from shoplifting to robbery, from Friday September 9 to 16.
These arrests include six for possession of narcotics; four for robbery; three for possession of stolen motor vehicles; three for assault and domestic violence; one incident involving malicious damage to property; one for dealing in liquor without a licence; seven incidents of shoplifting; one of theft; and one for outstanding warrants.
There was one attempted rape and 24 cases of drunk driving, with one incident of reckless and negligent driving, four arrests for illegal immigrants, three arrests for possession of a dangerous weapon and one arrest for the possession of an unlicenced firearm.
Last Saturday, September 10, Muizenberg SAPS, assisted by law enforcement and metro police, held two roadblocks in the Muizenberg precinct.
The roadblocks, which started at 8pm, led to the arrest of 23 people for driving under the influence of alcohol, two for the possession of narcotics and two for the possession of dangerous weapons.
The station commander of Muizenberg SAPS, Colonel Ismail Daniels, said that these roadblocks will be ongoing, so as to eradicate the scourge of drunken driving on our streets.
Colonel Daniels also believes that the increased visibility in the area will have a positive effect in the fight against crime. He thanked the other law enforcement agencies for their cooperation.
Muizenberg police are still investigating a house robbery, which occurred on Saturday August 20, at 2pm.
The suspect entered an office in Penrose Road, Muizenberg, through an open door.
He threatened the owner, a 50-year-old woman, with a knife and stole her rings, laptop, Samsung J5 cell phone and purse.
The man has a slender build and is approximately 1.7m tall.
