Muizenberg pool, pictured, is one of 17 public swimming pools reopened for the summer season. The pool reopened on Saturday December 1 and will close again on Saturday February 2. It now has its own alternative fresh water source after R400 000 was spent on drilling a well. The City’s Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, said the plan was initially to draw salt water as an alternative water source, but instead, drilling resulted in finding good quality fresh water, which will also be used for irrigation. An additional well point was drilled to serve as a water collection point which will be used to top up other operational swimming pools.
