Four SACS pupils have been hailed as heroes for their 67 Kids To School project.
The project is headed up by Nishen Naidoo, Adam Begg, Stuart MacDonald and Fabrice Nahimana, who raised R40 000 to support 67 pupils from Masiphumelele with their first year of schooling.
The pupils have won the Lead SA Youth Heroes of the Year award for the Western Cape.
The SA Heroes campaign identifies standout members of society who are making a difference and act as beacons of positivity within their communities. The pupils were honoured on Saturday August 5, at a special brunch awards ceremony.
Each hero received R10 000 from the MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fund-raising programme to donate towards a charity of their choice.
Lead SA accepted public nominations for the categories of Hero and Youth Hero, who are nominees under the age of 21.
Two heroes were profiled each month. Each regional hero will now go on to compete in the national selection process, where they stand to win a further R90 000 from sponsors – which will go a long way in helping their initiatives to continue to grow.
