*There is a special visitor on Fish Hoek beach. Buffel, a southern elephant seal, made his appearance last week to the delight of visitors and residents. Steve Benjamin of Animal Ocean said he is moulting (shedding old fur) and should not be disturbed. It’s believed Buffel came from Marion Island some 2 100km away. During moulting, seals don’t eat and the process can take up to a month. According to Mr Benjamin, the elephant seal has no fear of humans and dogs and probably sees humans as big penguins.Â
