False Bay Folk Club is having a once-off special performance on Tuesday August 16, in addition to their usual monthly meetings, to showcase the talents of André de Villiers and of Rocking Horse.
André is no stranger to the folk club. Starting his career as lead singer of Hammak, he has 15 al-bums behind him, a number of a-ward-winning compositions for the advertising industry to his credit, and many tours to the United States, Europe and Australia. His la-test album is Survivor of the Flood.
The show will include songs André is most well known for and material from his new CD. André is sure to do some old favourites from James Taylor, the Beatles and others.
Next up is Rocking Horse whose three founder members, Clive Ridgway, Tony Ridgway and Fish Hoek local Barry Buret have been performing together for more than 30 years. They stepped onto the stage as a country band for the first time in December 1985, releasing their debut album Someone Loves You in 1988 which contained their popular song Down South In New Orleans.
The band’s songwriters, brothers Clive and Tony Ridgway, spent time in Nashville in the mid-1990s and on return to South Africa began working as songwriters for a wide range of local recording artists. Their songs have been recorded by country artists like Lance James, Clive Bruce and Bobby Angel, pop singers including Kurt Darren and Dr Victor; and jazz artists Judith Sephuma and Jonathan Butler.
Entry is R100. Meet at the Clovelly Country/Golf club from 6.30pm. Meals to be ordered by 7pm so there is no interference once the music starts at 7.30pm.Bookings to be made by phoning 021 782 2920 or SMS 083 321 3651.
