Muizenberg SAPS hosted a public meeting on Thursday February 25 at the Muizenberg High School, which was attended by residents of Sector 3, which includes Kalk Bay, St James, Lakeside, Muizenberg and Marina da Gama.
They addressed various issues including crime, police visibility, and reaction time.
The sector manager, Constable Shaun Mostert, gave an overview of the crime since November last year, which showed definite decreases in the property related category.
One area of concern was robberies, which were deemed to be opportunistic.
Colonel Ismail Daniels, the station commander of Muizenberg SAPS, assisted by Major Deidré Engelbrecht, Vispol commander and Captain Stephen Knapp, communications officer, addressed the concerns raised by the community and assured them of their continued attempts to improve increase police professionalism.
Although concerns were raised, the community thanked members of SAPS for their help in safeguarding the community.
The meeting was held in a positive spirit and was attended by councillor Dave Dalton and various neighbourhood watches, who pledged their support to improve community-police partnerships.
The meeting was concluded after an invitation was extended to all community members to attend a community outreach programme, which will be held on Wednesday March 23. The details will be provided when they become available.
