Alexis Biermann first featured in the Echo in 2010 when she was a pupil at Silvermine Academy, competing successfully against adults in the South African Practical Shooting Association nationals.
Now she is a third-year BSc student and recently took part in the third round of the South African International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) championships in Welkom.
She was awarded the silver medal for the two-day long gruelling match in very hot conditions in her division, Ladies’ Open. She was named South African Champion 2016 for the Ladies Open class and selected for the national team to take part in the world championships in France in August 2017, receiving her Protea colours.
Alexis started taking part in competitive sports shooting at the age of 14 and seven years of hard work and dedication in between her studies have finally paid off.
Alexis is a member of Boland province for her sports shooting and has been awarded Boland colours four times now.
Alexis shoots a .38 Super race gun and is fully sponsored by False Bay Firearm Training Academy, owned by her parents, Noordhoek residents Keith and Debbi Biermann.
Her coaches over the years have been Rodney Haycock, Kevin Rolls, Austen Stockbridge and her dad.
All are highly competitive sports shooters.
