A 33-year-old suspected poacher was arrested on a train in the Muizenberg area yesterday.
Law enforcement officers spotted the man perched between two carriages.
They instructed him to board the train legally. The officers soon noticed that he was carrying a suspicious looking package. They proceeded to inspect it.
Law enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, said: “The officers found 18 units of undersized unshucked abalone, one shucked abalone, three Alikreukels and one periwinkle.”
The suspect, from Hillview, was taken to Muizenberg police station where he was charged under the Marine and Living Resources Act.
The man was out on bail of R300 for committing the same offence on Tuesday May 28.
