Four people were arrested for the possession of illegal abalone between St James and Fish Hoek on Saturday January 4.
Law enforcement officers, who were patrolling the area, saw four people inside a Toyota sedan.
The officers recognized the driver as someone they had previously arrested for the illegal possession of abalone.
They approached the group for further investigation.
Metro police spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, said: “Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 22 pieces of unshucked abalone and 40 pieces of shucked abalone.”
They had a total value of R21 750.
Diving equipment was confiscated and the vehicle was also impounded.
Three men and a woman were arrested in terms of the Marine and Living Resources Act.
One of the suspects is a repeat offender and has a suspended sentence for the same offence.
